THE DANCER’S PLEDGE
by Morwenna
Assaf,
Director
The following list is something that I composed from an article that totally
inspired me written by Grover Dale the Publisher of Dance/Fitness West. In fact
I was so totally inspired that I wrote to Grover and received mention in the May
issue of the magazine. The following are items I have as a dancer and performer
always tried to hold to. The style of dance does not matter. This particular
list was adapted for Middle Eastern Dance.
Read the list and see where you stand. Are you a true professional. If you
are on line you know there is much discussion about this subject. So here is a
Pledge list for all of us to hold on to. My dancer’s at C*E*D*A*R all have to
sign this list on acceptance into the company. If you have any ideas and
thoughts on this subject, please, contact me and let me know. Be a total
professional so we can all help to develop this dance we love so much at the
highest level possible.
THE PROFESSIONAL DANCERS’ PLEDGE
LIST
I plan on maintaining my dance classes even when I am dancing
professionally.
I will balance my Middle Eastern foundation with other dance style
classes.
I will upgrade my potential by taking acting classes or even voice.
I will not sacrifice basic technique in favor of performing tricks.
I will develop a vocabulary of different Middle Eastern dance styles.
I will acquire kinetic skills, infusing movement with the emotions called
for.
I will develop the ability to work fast.
I will improve my retentive powers.
I will explore injury prevention techniques & therapies.
I will improve my understanding of Middle Eastern music.
I will develop a strong code of work ethics.
I will attend to personal appearance issues.
I will constantly show respect for the needs of others.
I will demonstrate that I am co-operative by nature.
I will not rely solely on others to get me my work seen.
I will leave attitude & personal dramas outside the door at classes,
rehearsals, & performances.
I will constantly be prompt.
I will be a team player & show I can be counted on.
